2023 Merlot
Tasting notes
I feel like I should start this note with writing about how I feel about growing our merlot. It is honestly the easiest varietal to grow on my site. It ripens within the same 10 days every year. If I pay close attention to the vine, it will show me ahead of time what it needs, and I give it the nurturing it is asking for. This always made me curious about what would happen when we decided to make our own wine from this block. The vine grows small clusters with small berries which contributes to the intense dark garnet color you will see in your glass. After aging in French oak for 22 months this well-balanced merlot starts with floral aromas of violets and blackberries. On the palate you are going to experience black cherry, black berry, vanilla, licorice, and baking spices. The velvet tannins help create a harmonious balance between the flavors, acidity and alcohol making it the perfect wine to pair with a wide range of foods.
